Words of Wisdom

Aphorisms

By Thomas Wiegandt

I was lucky to still have grown up with proverbs being used in the countryside.

Proverbs and aphorisms are banisters in life.

Collection in no particular order :

Take time out in time.

Don’t tire to inspire before you expire.

Now is the time, don’t think so often and unnecessarily about the yestermorrow.

Thou shalt not create unnecessary work.

Waste is a waste and ultimately stupid. Why work or pay for something that is either unnecessary or not being used and then thrown away?!

Don’t buy shite, if you want to see the light!

Love is an ocean of time, time is an ocean of love. (a poetic cosmic concept)

One hundred percent or perfection does not exist. Everyone’s best effort inevitably has to be good enough!

The achievements prescribed by society and convention rarely give long term happiness or satisfaction. The pursuit of achieving is often like filling a bottomless hole and like any addiction that makes you only feel good for a while.

Try to relax and don’t judge at all!

Knowledge is at best useful and it can be looked up anytime. In contrast to that wisdom is true and kind and it evolves in its own time.

Think with your body, feel with your mind.

Hug often, it makes most people feel good. It’s a two way non-verbal communication at a deep level. If in doubt always ask for permission!

Kindness never hurts.

Awareness and relaxedness are the two sides of the same coin.

The noble “hhh” : honest, honorable and humble.

Give attention to your belly button every so often. It is the connection to your mother and all your ancestors and the omni-verse.

To have no expectations and no assumptions will save you from disappointment and inappropriate actions.

Be observant, vigilant and critical of power and money structures and egoistical people. Asking “Who does gain from this?” will be often very revealing.

Don’t trust letters and screens, live your own dreams.

We learn by repetition, by repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition …

Never give up and never close down.

Aphorisms

My preferred collection of more or less commonly known ones.

An aphorism is a brief saying or proverb that expresses an insight or makes a statement of wisdom.

Aphorisms are banisters in life. I was lucky to still have grown up with proverbs being used in the countryside.

Collection in no particular order :

Simple is best.

Action speaks louder than words.

One thing at a time.

Live and let live.

Take some and leave some.

There is light at the end of the tunnel.

What goes around, comes around.

Commit random acts of kindness.

All for one and one for all.

The problem with common sense is that it is not common.

Desire creates suffering. (Draw your own conclusion!)

This, too, shall pass.

Silence is the answer.

Women must be loved not understood.

Why did the dog lick his balls? Because he can!

What you do not wish to be done to yourself, do not do to others.

Sharing is caring (is daring).

Nature knows best.

Different strokes for different folks.

There is no greater suffering than what one does to one self.

Less is more.
